Sade and Steve met while teaching at an after school program, East Harlem Tutorial Program. Over the summer, they took the students to the University of Virginia where Sade taught a college prep class and Steve taught an Intro to 3D Animation class.

They both had the same lunch times, did the night shifts together, and got to know each other.

After the program, they had their first date at Bare Burger.​ Six years after growing together, Steve did something crazy and asked Sade to marry him.
